The University of Redlands men's and women's cross country teams took the short trip West to compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational this morning. Behind a first-place showing from junior Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) the men's team took third while the women also registered a third-place finish.
The meet featured five other Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools and three Division II schools.
Cargile finished the 8k ahead of the bunch with a first-place finish of 25:24.0. He has knocked off nearly a minute each year he has competed in this race.
First-year Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina) followed with a time of 26:19.6 and 19th-place.
Sophomore Miguel Fausto (Whittier, CA), first-year Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA), first-year Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA), and junior Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO) crossed the finish line next, all just 10 seconds after one another. Fausto ran the fastest of the quartet with a 31st-place finish in 26:44.8. Farnsworth posted a time of 26:55.8, Salcido stopped the clock at 27:04.8, and Olive-Larson finished in 40th with a time of 27:15.1. The posted times represent career-best, 8k times for all four of these athletes.
Junior Matthew Casey (Highland Park, IL), first-year Aaron Selikovitz (Los Angeles, CA), first-year Martin Cruz-Martinez (Bishop, CA), sophomore Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA), sophomore Joey Roberts (San Diego, CA), and sophomore Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) put up quality marks, all crossing the finish line before the 30-minute mark.
The women's cross country team also had an excellent outing, taking third out of nine teams. Senior Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) paced the Bulldogs taking fifth, stopping the clock at 22:33.3.
Sophomore Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) crossed the finish line just under a minute later. Glenn placed 13th with a time of 23:20.8. This time represents the fastest 6k in her career.
Senior Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) and sophomore Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA) both finished in the Top-25, posting times of 23:31.9 and 23:45.3 respectively. This is also Veasy's career-best 6k time.
Next was senior Sarah Shipway (Lafayette, CA) and first-year Sheriane Greene (Grass Valley, CA) who finished back-to-back in 33rd and 34th place. Shipway clocked in at 24:27.7 while Green stopped the time with a career-best 24:31.7.
First-years Jane Whitticar (Bend, OR) and Clara Miller (Portland, OR) rounded out the Redlands runners crossing the line at 25:06.8 and 26:23.2.
Redlands cross country competes next Saturday, October 19, at the UCR Highlander Invitational in Riverside at 7:30 a.m.
