The University of Redlands men's and women's cross country teams opened the season at home for the annual Redlands Invitational on Saturday morning. With a few fresh faces stepping up, the women impressed with a second-place finish in the 4500-meter run, while the men claimed fourth place in their 6k event.

Spearheading the women's efforts, sophomore Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA) dominated her previous best mark at this race by more than 20 seconds with a quality time of 17:56, which placed her fourth in the individual standings.

Senior Sarah Shipway (Lafayette, CA) and sophomore Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) crossed the line in succession around the 18:29-mark, which resulted in a career-best for Glenn. Rounding out the top-five runners for the Maroon and Gray, senior Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) stopped the clock in 18:46, while first-year Sheriane Greene (Grass Valley, CA) completed her collegiate debut with a time of 18:51.

All five of these Bulldogs finished among the fastest 20 in the meet.

First-year Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA) and sophomore Miguel Fausto (Whittier, CA) finished the race nearly together, as they crossed the line in 11th and 12th place near the 20:21-mark. For Fausto, this was a huge improvement over last year, as he bettered his time by more than 20 seconds.

First-year Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina) completed the inaugural race of his college career in 20:28 for a 14th-place showing. Also making his Bulldog debut, first-year Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) came in 28th with a time of 20:55, while junior Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO) served as the Bulldogs' fifth runner with a 36th-place time of 21:09.

Redlands heads to the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, September 14, at 7:30 a.m.
