2025 All-SCIAC Football Awards Release

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Football All-SCIAC Awards with nine University of Redlands football players earning recognition: Aaron Muniz (Fontana, CA) (1st Team), Enrique Ybanez (Ontario, CA) (1st Team), Tobey Schmidt (Tustin, CA) (2nd Team), Mark Mitchell III (Fontana, CA) (2nd Team), Benjamin Fitchett (La Habra, CA) (2nd Team), Javier Sandoval (San Bernardino, CA) (2nd Team), Andrew Placido (Hayward, CA) (2nd Team), Laurence Williams (Corona, CA) (2nd Team), and Joey Newell (Duvall, WA) (2nd Team).

This is the second All-SCIAC selection, both coming on the 1st Team for Muniz. During SCIAC play he averaged .56 tackles for a loss (TFL) per game, the 20th-highest mark, and averaged .25 sacks per game (SPG), the 19th-highest. He had 31 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and a team-high nine quarterback hurries (QBH) on the season overall.

Ybanez earned his first All-SCIAC selection thanks to a conference leading four interceptions. He also averaged .63 passes defended per game, the 11th-highest rate. Ybanez was one of only 19 players who forced a fumble and finished with 31 tackles.

Schmidt becomes the first quarterback to earn All-SCIAC honors since Nathan Martinez when he was voted a 1st Team selection in 2021. In his first season with the Bulldogs Schmidt was fourth in SCIAC in total offense at 119.3 yards per game (YPG). He was third with 1,043 passing yards, second in passing touchdowns (8), and second in passing efficiency (124.3). His 214 total yards against Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) on October 18 was the sixth-most.

Mitchell III was the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, the second in program history. The freshman running back was third during SCIAC play in rushing YPG at 61.5. His 57-yard rushing touchdown against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on November 8 was the second-longest run in SCIAC this season. His YPG average ranked 11th in the conference with eight of the players sitting ahead of him being quarterbacks. Against P-P in the regular season finale Mitchell had 40 rushing attempts, a program record and the fifth-most total plays, including passes and receptions, accounted for during SCIAC play. His 95 yards on the ground against the Sagehens were third-most and 135 total yards were seventh in SCIAC. He was also fourth in SCIAC in punt return average at 8.9 yards per return.

Offensive lineman Fitchett is now a three-time All-SCIAC selection. He helped the Bulldogs gain more than 1,000 yards in the air and almost 800 on the ground leading that unit.

Sandoval makes the All-SCIAC team for the first time. The defensive lineman finished the regular season with 27 total tackles, two TFL's, and had two QBH.

Placido, another first-time selection, had 36 total tackles, 2.5 TFL's, two passes defended, and two QBH.

Williams, is also a first-time selection a defensive back, finishing 11th in SCIAC at 5.8 tackles per game (TPG), 20th in TFL's at .63, and 17th in passes defended per game at .50.

Kickoff specialist Newell, another first timer, helped the Bulldogs to the third-highest kickoff average of 57.5. His 13 touchbacks were second-most despite attempting the fewest, 28, kickoffs.

Four of the nine All-SCIAC selections have remaining eligibility for a team that recorded their most wins, six, since 2021.
